New Haven, Conn. -- The Assumption College baseball team lost 12-2 at Southern Connecticut State University on Thursday, despite a strong hitting performance by the Greyhounds' senior leftfielder Wally Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass./Holy Name) who went three-for-four on the day with an RBI.
Senior pitcher Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) pitched a complete game for the Owls, scattering seven hits and giving up only one earned run over nine innings. Offensively, Southern Connecticut had six out of nine starters with at least one hit and four of the six players had multiple hits in the game. Junior infielder Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) swung a went thre-for-five with two runs scored. Senior outfielder Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) and junior first baseman Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) combined for five hits, three runs scored and seven RBI in the game. Freshman second basemen T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in going thre-for-four with two RBI and run scored.
Sophomore reliever Matt Metcalf (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) had two shutout innings for Assumption.
Southern Connecticut improves to 24-1 and 9-1 in Northeast-10 play while Assumption drops to 6-16 with a 3-5 conference record. The Greyhounds play next at home on Saturday as they host the Skyhawks of Stonehill in a double-header.
