Box Score Waltham, Mass. (April 10) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a 19-15 final in a Northeast-10 Conference slugfest at DeFelice Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior captain Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech.) and senior third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) each recorded four-hit days for Assumption in the loss, while Joe Lopes (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) and Matt Consigli (Whitinsville, Mass./Northbridge) each finished with three hits. Senior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass./Saint Johns) and freshman second baseman Kelvin Sims (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) each had two-hit days for Assumption.
Keddy had a 4-for-5 day with three runs and three RBI, raising his league-leading batting average to .444 with his third four-hit game and 13th multi-hit game of the season.
Assumption took an early four-run lead on two hits and an error in the top of the first inning, but gave the lead back quickly, allowing 11 runs in the bottom of the frame. Bentley tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to take a 12-4 lead.
The Greyhounds chipped away in the top of the third with six runs, to cut the Falcon lead to two, 12-10.
Bentley pulled away for good with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and four runs in the bottom of the fourth, to take a 18-10 lead.
Assumption rallied again with two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings, but came up short.
The Greyhounds fall to 6-16 overall, while Bentley improves to 17-15 with the victory.
Assumption will return to action on Wednesday, April 11 as the team plays host to American International College at 3:30 p.m.
