Box Score New Haven, Conn. (April 20) -- The Assumption College baseball team lost to Southern Conn. State University by a 7-6 final at the SCSU Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.
Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) had two hits in the game, while senior third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) had two RBI.
Freshman Santi Palmer (San Juan, P.R./Colegio San Ignacio) was the hard luck loser, working 4.1 innings, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out four.
Assumption fell behind in the bottom of the first inning, as SCSU jumped out to 5-0 lead.
The Greyhounds chipped away with four runs of their own in the top of the second, to cut the lead to one.
SCSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the second to take a 6-4 lead, but Assumption tied the score on a two RBI double by Smith in the fifth.
The Owls broke the tie in the seventh on a bases loaded walk, and Assumption could not equalize in the 7-6 final.
The Greyhounds fall to 10-20-1 on the season and will return to action against Pace University on Saturday, April 21. The game will begin at 11 a.m. at Pace University.
