Box Score Waltham, Mass. (April 9) -- The Assumption College baseball team lost to Bentley University, 8-6, at DeFelice Field on Monday afternoon.
Junior captain Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) and senior third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) each recorded two hits for Assumption, while senior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass./Saint John's) hit a three-run homerun for a team-high three RBI on the day. Keddy improved his league-leading batting average to .424 with his 2-for-4 day.
Holding a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, Quinn hit a 2-1 pitch over the centerfield wall to give Assumption a 5-1 lead in the game.
Bentley scored a run in the bottom of the frame to cut into the lead and used a four-run seventh inning to take its first lead of the game.
Assumption starter Ben Hastings (Norton, Mass./Norton) scattered nine hits over six innings, allowing three runs, but only one earned while striking out four.
Senior Frank Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) took the loss for Assumption, as the Greyhounds fall to 6-15 overall, while Bentley improves to 16-15.
The Greyhounds return to action to square off against Bentley again on Tuesday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.
