Box Score Winter Park, Fla. (March 10) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Bentley University at Alfond Stadium to close out the teams spring trip to Florida on Sunday.
Junior Pat Coleman (Newark, Del. / Salesianum St. Elizabeth) got the start for the Greyhounds, working five innings while allowing three hits and one run, while striking out five.
The Greyhounds held a 3-1 lead when Coleman departed, helped by a two-RBI single by senior Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech) in the top of the third inning. Assumption extended the lead to two, 3-1, as Bret Clark (Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth.
Sophomore reliever Santi Palmer (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) took the loss as Assumption allowed three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth. Bentley took a 4-3 lead after the frame and would not relinquish the lead.
The Falcons added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the 5-3 win.
Assumption falls to 2-8 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, March 16th against Southern Connecticut State University. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
