Winter Park, Fla. (March 4) -- The Assumption College baseball team lost a 5-4 final to Felician College in 11 innings on Monday at Alfond Stadium on the campus of Rollins College.

Senior's Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) went 3-for-5 in the game, while Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech) went 2-for-5 while each player had an RBI and scored a run.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a two-run fifth inning started by Keddy, who singled up the middle to lead off the frame. After stealing second, Keddy scored on an RBI single by Smith. The Greyhounds tacked on another run in the inning for the two-run lead.

Felician cut the lead in half in the sixth after Assumption starter Pat Coleman (Newark, Del. / Salesianum St. Elizabeth) allowed back-to-back singles to start the inning. He allowed a sacrifice bunt to the final batter he faced, closing out a strong start for the junior. Overall Coleman worked 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out five.

The Greyhounds extended the lead to three, 4-1, with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but allowed three runs in the final frame to send the game to extra innings.

After working a scoreless tenth inning, senior Matt Metcalf (Warwick, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) allowed a run in the eleventh inning to pick up the loss.

The Greyhounds fall to 0-4 on the season, while Felician improves to 5-8 with the victory.

Assumption will return to action on Tuesday, March 5 against Saint Anselm College. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Alfond Stadium on the campus of Rollins College.
