Box Score Winter Park, Fla. (March 7) -- The Assumption College baseball team defeated Felician College, 3-2, behind a strong performance by sophomore Mitch Kelly (Watertown, Conn. / Watertown) on Thursday.
Kelly worked 5.1 innings of shutout baseball, extending his streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 9.1 innings to start the season. The sophomore allowed two hits while striking out three to pick up his first win of the season.
The Greyhounds jumped ahead with two runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on two miscues by Felician. Senior Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech) led off the inning with a walk. Senior Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) drove him in with an RBI double to put the Greyhounds ahead. Smith advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt, before coming around to score on a passed ball, giving the Greyhounds the two-run advantage.
The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the fifth to give Kelly and the Greyhounds a 3-0 advantage. Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn. / Nathan Hale Ray) worked 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing runs in the seventh and ninth innings, to pick up his first save of the season.
The Greyhounds improve to 2-4 on the season with the win and return to action with a pair of games on Friday, March 8. Assumption will face Stonehill College at 2:30 p.m. and Rollins College at 6:00 p.m.
