Box Score Worcester, Mass. (April 17) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a 5-3 final to
Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference non-divisional play at Rocheleau Field on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds fall to 11-22 overall and 7-11 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Falcons improve to 18-15 overall and 11-7 in league play.
Senior Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) had a two-hit day for Assumption in the loss while Greg O'Donnell (Northbridge, Mass. / Northbridge) drove in two runs for the home team.
Trailing 1-0, the Greyhounds scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning on three hits and capitalizing on one Falcon error.
Freshman Tomas Paine (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc) led off the inning with a single through the left side. The next batter, Bret Clark (Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central), squared up for a sacrifice bunt but the ball was misplayed by the Bentley first baseman allowing Clark to reach safely and putting runners on first and second.
After an Assumption strikeout, Smith hit a double to right-center field to tie the game up at one. With two outs, O'Donnell put the Greyhounds ahead 3-1 with a two-RBI double into deep left field.
After two scoreless innings, the Falcons broke through against the Assumption bullpen with three runs in the top of the ninth for the 5-3 final.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st for a three-game set against division-leading Pace University. The first game of the series will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday and continue with a doubleheader that day before the teams will wrap up the third game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
