Box Score 2 Albany, N.Y. (April 24) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds lost the first game by
a 13-0 final before falling in the second game, 5-1.
Holding a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning, the Golden Knights broke open the first game with a nine-run inning for the final edge. Saint Rose had five hits and took advantage of three Greyhound errors to score nine unearned runs in the frame.
Chris Gould earned the win for Saint Rose, pitching a complete game seven-hitter, striking out five while allowing no runs.
The Greyhounds fell 5-1 in game two as Assumption loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning, but couldn't get a big hit to cut into the lead.
The Golden Knights scored five times in the first inning but were shut down by relievers Cody Rocha (Fall River, Mass. / BMC Durfee) and Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn. / Hale Ray). The tandem combined for 7.1 innings of seven-hit shutout baseball. Rocha worked the first 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing two hits while striking out two before giving way to Bradley.
Bradley worked the final three innings, allowing five hits while striking out five to keep Assumption within striking distance.
Junior Bret Clark (Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central) went 3-for-4 in the game in the loss as the lone Greyhound to record a multi-hit game on the day.
The Greyhounds attempted a comeback in the ninth inning as senior Nick Napoli (Medford, Mass. / Boston College) led off the inning with a double. After a ground out, freshman Tomas Paine (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.
Clark singled to left field with two outs to load the bases but Assumption couldn't get the two-out hit in the loss.
Assumption falls to 13-25 overall, including an 8-6 mark in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest divisional play while Saint Rose improves to 9-33 overall, including a 6-16 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Thursday, April 25th as the team will travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Rollins College. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Bentley University.
