Waltham, Mass. (April 25) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a 10-8 final to Rollins College at DeFelice Field in non-conference play on Thursday.

Junior Bill King (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) took the loss for the Greyhounds, working 5.2 innings while allowing 11 hits in the loss. King was hurt by six unearned runs in the sixth inning after the Greyhounds had built an 8-3 lead.

The Greyhounds got on the board first with a run in the second inning. Freshman Tomas Paine (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc) had an RBI single into left field, driving in senior Nick Napoli (Medford, Mass. / Boston College) for the Greyhounds run.

The Tars answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by a two-run triple by junior Zack Persky to deep left field.

Assumption responded with a six-run fourth inning as freshman Paine, senior Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech), and sophomore Greg O'Donnell (Northbridge, Mass. / Northbridge) drove in runs in the inning. Paine and Keddy had RBI singles while O'Donnell drove in two on a single through the right side.

When the inning was over, the Greyhounds held an 8-3 lead after four innings.

After a scoreless fifth, the Tars took advantage of a two-out error in the sixth to score six unearned runs and take a 9-8 lead. Rollins had three hits after the error to take the lead.

The Tars added an insurance run in the seventh on a leadoff double. The batter advanced to third on an error and came around to score on a single by the next hitter.

The Greyhounds fall to 13-26 overall, while Rollins improve to 21-18-1 on the season.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, April 17 against the University of New Haven for a key Southwest Divisional series. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at noon in New Haven.
