Box Score

West Haven, Conn. (April 28) -- The Assumption College baseball team lost a 1-0 final to the University of New Haven in the third game of its series with the Chargers at  Frank Vieira Field on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Santi Palmer (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) took the hard luck loss in a pitcher's duel, working 6.1 innings of four-hit ball, allowing just one run in his outing. The sophomore walked one while striking out three to give the Greyhounds a strong start in the series finale.

He was matched by New Haven starter Frank Vilacha, who pitched seven innings while also allowing four hits and walking one Greyhound. He struck out two and left the game with a 1-0 lead after seven innings.

The bullpens for each team had scoreless efforts as senior Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn. / Hale Ray) worked 1.2 innings of one-hit ball out of the Assumption pen.

The Chargers scored their lone run in the seventh inning as two of the first three batters in the frame hit doubles, plating the only run of the game. Bradley came into the game following the second double and retired the next two batters to end the inning.

Assumption dropped to 13-29 on the season and 8-9 in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division while New Haven improves to 25-12 overall and 12-5 in divisional play.

The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, April 30th as the Greyhounds will conclude their season series with the Yellow Jackets of American International College. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Rocheleau Field in Worcester, Mass.  Prior to the game, the Greyhounds will honor their senior class for their contributions to the program.
