Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Manchester, N.H. (April 7) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a doubleheader with Saint Anselm College at Sullivan Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Greyhounds dropped the first game by a 12-4 final before losing the second game, 7-5.

Sophomore Santi Palmer (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) took the loss for the Greyhounds in the first game, working 4.1 innings while allowing six earned runs on 11 hits and four walks.

Sophomore Billy Johnson (Auburn, Mass. / Holy Name) reached base three times in the game, going 1-for-3 with two walks. He also had a fifth-inning RBI in the loss. The RBI cut the lead to two, 3-1, in the fifth inning, but Saint Anselm used a four-run fifth inning to pull away from Assumption.

Freshman Tom Hudon picked up the win for the Hawks, pitching seven innings while allowing one run on five hits.

The Greyhounds dropped the second game, 7-5, as junior Pat Coleman (Newark, Del. / Salesianum St. Elizabeth) took the loss, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing seven hits and five runs. Coleman was effective through the first five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He allowed the run in the third inning as the Hawks started the frame with a leadoff single and took the lead on a one-out sacrifice fly.

The Greyhounds scored three runs in the top of the ninth as part of a furious late rally that came up short.

The Hawks broke the game open with four runs in the sixth inning, all of which were charged to Coleman. The junior allowed a two-run homerun to Rob Kelly and then gave up a double and a walk before being lifted with two outs in the frame.

Freshman Anthony Perry (Salem, Mass. / Saint John's) relieved Coleman and gave up a triple to the first batter he faced, allowing two more runs to score, pushing the Hawk lead to five.

The Greyhounds cut the lead to three, 5-2, with runs in the seventh and eighth innings as Assumption scored on a throwing error in the seventh before senior Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech) hit his second homerun of the season in the eighth.

Following the Keddy homerun, the Greyhounds hit three singles to load the bases with one out, but couldn't collect another base hit to cut into the Hawk lead.

The Hawks added two runs in the bottom of the frame on two hits to extend the lead to five, 7-2. Saint Anselm scored its first run on a wild pitch before Kelly had an RBI single for the final margin.

The Greyhounds then began their comeback in the top of the ninth. Junior Bret Clark (Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central) led off the inning with a walk, followed by three-straight singles by Tomas Paine (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc), Keddy, and Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken), scoring the first run of the inning.

After a pitching change, Johnson grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Paine, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch which scored Keddy, cutting the Hawk lead to two, 7-5, with one out in the inning.

The Greyhounds couldn't get any closer and with the losses, Assumption falls to 7-19 on the season while Saint Anselm 12-16-1 with the win.

The Greyhounds will be back in action on April 9th for its home opener against Southern Connecticut State University. The game will begin 3:30 p.m. at Rocheleau Field in Worcester, Mass.
