Easton, Mass. (April 9) -- A six-run seventh inning put Assumption in front by a 6-0 margin at Stonehill as the Hounds held off the Skyhawks for a 6-3 victory in Northeast-10 Conference divisional action on Wednesday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

In the sixth, the Hounds got things started as the first seven batters of the inning reached off of Stonehill starting pitcher Jim Duff. Sophomore Colin Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) got things going with a two-RBI double to right that scored juniors Billy Johnson (Auburn, Mass./Holy Name) and Greg O'Donnell (Northbridge, Mass./Northbridge) for the 2-0 lead. Sophomore Tom Paine (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc) and freshman Matt Murphy (Wakefield, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) followed that with RBI singles of their own for the 4-0 edge, followed by RBI groundouts to stake the Hounds to the 6-0 advantage.

The Skyhawks answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs behind a two-run homer to right by centerfielder Chris Callahan to cut the lead to 6-2. Also scoring on the home run was catcher Eric Schneider, who led off the inning with a walk. Stonehill led off the bottom of the seventh with a single up the middle by Brian Campbell, which chased Assumption starter Kevin O'Connor (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) from the game after seven innings pitched. O'Connor allowed three runs with three strikeouts while scattering seven hits in the win. Campbell eventually came home on a sacrifice fly to left by Dan Fratus, but that was the final run of the game for the Skyhawks in the 6-3 final.

Senior Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) came in from right field to pitch the ninth as he set down the Skyhawks in order for his second save of the season.

Freshman Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) went 3-for-4 with one run scored to lead the nine-hit attack for the Hounds, while Clancy led the team with two runs batted in. Campbell, Callahan and Christian Baglini finished with two hits each for Stonehill in the loss.

Duff falls to 6-1 on the season with the loss as he gave up six earned runs in six innings, while O'Connor sits at 2-1 for Assumption in the victory.

Assumption is back in action on Thursday, April 10th as the Hounds host Franklin Pierce University for a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Rocheleau Field.
