Box Score 2  Winter Park, Florida (March 2) -- In a pair of games on Monday, the Assumption College baseball team picked up a split of two regional contests at Alfond Stadium at Rollins College. After dropping a late 6-5 final to Concordia College (N.Y.) in game one, the Hounds defeated Saint Rose by a 7-2 final in the second game for the team's first win of the season.

After dropping a late 6-5 final to Concordia College (N.Y.) in game one, the Hounds defeated Saint Rose by a 7-2 final in the second game for the team's first win of the season.
Game One - Concordia 6, Assumption 5
 In the top of the second, sophomore Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a single to center by freshman catcher Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College). After a sacrifice bunt moved Coggeshall and Jaehnig into scoring position, freshman Bryan Guerrero (Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Coggeshall and Jaehnig came home on a two-RBI single down the right field line from sophomore Matt Murphy (Wakefield, R.I./Bishop Hendricken), followed by a sacrifice fly to right by junior Michael Panza (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) to score Guerrero.
After adding a single run in the top of the fourth as Jaehnig scored on a two-out error by the shortstop for the 4-0 advantage, the Clippers quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning off junior Anthony Perry (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's). The Clippers started off the inning with three straight hits, including an RBI single to right by Erik Poldroo that scored Ryan Roman. After a sacrifice fly brought home Jason Reyes, Poldroo eventually scored on an RBI hit to right for the third run.
Assumption added a single run in the top of the sixth as Jaehnig scored his third run of the game and the Hounds led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the inning. Concordia tied the game for the first time in the inning as the Clippers picked up two unearned runs to tie the game at 5-5.
Perry exited the game after six innings as he scattered seven hits while giving up five runs (three earned) with two strikeouts as he gave way to freshman righty Mike Curtis (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington). After a scoreless seventh and eighth, the game headed into the bottom of the ninth knotted at 5-5.
In the ninth, a leadoff walk and a hit by pitch put runners on first and second with no outs. Vincent Capone-Froio followed with a single to third and Roman drew a game-winning hit by pitch to cap off the Clipper comeback in the 6-5 final. Curtis falls to 0-1 on the season in the loss, while Concordia reliever Dylan Lawrence went three innings of one-hit relief to improve to 1-0.
Junior Tom Paine (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc) went 2-for-5 as the DH, while Jaehnig was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and Murphy added three runs batted in.
Game Two: Assumption 7, Saint Rose 2
 In the second game on Monday night, the Assumption College baseball team earned the split with a 7-2 victory over the Golden Knights.
In the opening inning, senior Billy Johnson (Auburn, Mass./Holy Name) scored Panza for the team's first run after Panza initially reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. Freshman Jordan Roper (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) came home for a single run in the second as the game headed to the bottom of the fourth eventually at 2-0 Hounds. In the bottom of the inning, Nick Venier came home on an RBI double to center off the bat of Zac Bellinger for a 2-1 margin. After two runs in the next inning by the Hounds with O'Donnell and Coggeshall scoring for the 4-1 edge, Assumption stretched the lead out to 5-1 in the top of the sixth by a run by Murphy. In the eighth, a two-out double to right center by Bellinger scored Nick Venier for the 5-2 margin before Assumption added two insurance runs for the five-run final margin. The final two Assumption runs came from Ben O'Donnell (Northbridge, Mass./Northbridge) and Roper as the Hounds picked up their first win of the season.
Junior Steve Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) picked up the win to improve to 1-1 on the season as he went seven innings, giving up four hits with one run and 10 strikeouts in an impressive performance.
