Winter Park, Florida (March 6) -- In non-conference action at the 67th Annual Baseball Week, the Assumption College baseball team dropped an 11-3 final to Rollins College on Friday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

For Assumption, junior Tom Paine (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc) picked up a one-out single to right in the top of the first and later came home on an RBI groundout to short by senior Greg O'Donnell (Northbridge, Mass./Northbridge) for the early 1-0 lead. The Tars answered in the bottom of the inning off Assumption starter Anthony Perry (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) for a single run as Christian Coburn scored on an RBI single to right by Peter Nicoletto for the 1-1 deadlock. Rollins added two runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 3-1 lead before the Hounds cut the advantage in half with a single run in the top of the third as Paine scored on an RBI hit from O'Donnell.

The teams traded runs over the next inning for the 4-3 margin before the Tars made it 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double to left by Nick Breen that scored Skip Kovar. Three-run innings in both the sixth and the eighth by Rollins put the game out of reach for the hosts, who jumped ahead 11-3 and finished the game with nine hits.

Paine and O'Donnell led the Hounds offense with two hits each, along with two runs scored for Paine and two RBI for O'Donnell. Perry took the loss for the Hounds on the mound as he went five innings while allowing four earned runs and scattering five hits.

For the Tars, Matthew Tulley picked up the win to improve to 2-2 overall as he threw four innings of seven-hit relief after coming into the game in just the second inning.

Assumption falls to 3-8 overall in the loss, while Rollins now sits at 11-9 overall for the season.

Assumption wraps up its spring break trip on Saturday morning as the Hounds take on Saint Anselm for a 10 a.m. start at Rollins.
