Colchester, Vt. (April 10) -- In a Northeast-10 divisional game on Friday afternoon, the Assumption College baseball team used an eight-inning performance on the mound from junior Steve Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) and clutch hits from sophomore Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) to pick up a 2-0 road win over Saint Michael's College at Doc Jacobs Field for the team's third-straight victory.

The Hounds got on the board in the top of the fourth as junior Tom Paine (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc) reached on a one-out fielder's choice to get things going. He later scored on a Coggeshall groundout for the early 1-0 lead. The game remained that way until the ninth when Coggeshall led off the frame with a solo home run, taking the 2-1 pitch to center for the 2-0 final margin.

Flynn, who needed 108 pitches thru eight innings, retired the Purple Knights in order three times midway thru the game. He gave way to sophomore Matt Murphy (Wakefield, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) for the ninth, who picked up the save with a perfect inning on 11 pitches. The win improves to Flynn to 2-3 overall for the second, while the save is the second of the year for Murphy.

Overall the Hounds picked up seven hits, led by two each from junior Michael Panza (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) and Coggeshall, while the Purple Knights had just four for the day. On the mound, Curt Echo went the distance for the hosts as he scattered seven hits with two runs (one earned) to drop to 0-5 overall.

The Hounds are now 6-14 overall, 2-3 in Northeast-10 play and 2-1 in the divisional, while the Purple Knights drop to a 4-13 overall record and an 0-6 league mark.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday morning as the Hounds take on the Purple Knights for a divisional twinbill beginning at 11 a.m.
