Rindge, N.H. (April 26) -- On Sunday afternoon, the Assumption College baseball team dropped a narrow 4-0 road final to No. 1 ranked Franklin Pierce University in the final game of the three-game divisional series at Pappas Field.
The Ravens jumped out to the early 2-0 lead with a pair of first-inning runs as Chris LaVorgna picked up an RBI single, followed by a bases-loaded walk for the hosts for the 2-0 advantage. The game stayed that way til the third inning off of Assumption senior starter Zack LaRosa (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) until the third when the Ravens scratched out a third run on an RBI single from Kurtis White. FPU's Kyle Hood accounted for the game's final run in the bottom of the seventh as his RBI double to left center scored Matt Walsh for the 4-0 final.
LaRosa went the distance for the Hounds in team's first complete game of the season, scattering 12 hits with four runs, three walks and four strikeouts to drop to 2-3 on the season. Conor Gleason threw 7.1 innings in the start for the Ravens to improve to 2-0 overall as he allowed just three hits and struck out 12. Travis Landry came on for the final 1.1 innings of scoreless play, earning his third save of the season.
With the loss, Assumption drops to 8-27 overall and 4-15 in league play, while the Ravens improve to 38-2 overall and 20-1 in the Northeast-10.
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, April 28th as the Hounds travel to Stonehill College for a 3:30 p.m. start in Easton, Mass.
