Easton, Mass. (April 28) -- On Tuesday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field, the Assumption College baseball team dropped a 12-0 final to Stonehill College in the final game of its three-game divisional series.
The Skyhawks jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead off of Assumption junior starter Steve Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) as Stonehill picked up two hits and took advantage of one error for the early edge. Stonehill added a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, followed by three runs in the third (two unearned) to seize the 9-0 advantage after three innings of play.
Stonehill picked up three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as well, ending the frame with three hits and leaving three runners on to account for the 12-0 final. The Skyhawks held a 12-7 edge in hits for the game and took advantage of five Assumption errors to pick up the win.
Freshman Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College) led the offense with two hits in the game, while three Skyhawks picked up multiple hits.
Flynn took the loss over his four-inning outing to drop to 2-6 on the season, while Stonehill starter Patrick Nicholson went seven innings of shutout ball to improve to 6-1 overall.
Assumption falls to 8-28 overall and 4-16 in Northeast-10 play, while Stonehill now sits at 28-10-1 and 15-6 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, May 2nd as the Hounds host Merrimack for a doubleheader beginning at Noon. The Hounds will honor the 2015 Senior Class at a ceremony in between games on Saturday at Rocheleau Field.
