The Lead: Assumption led by at least four in two of the three sets but couldn't break through with a victory as Pace earned a 25-19, 25-17, 28-26 conference win on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds led 17-13 midway through the first set, before a 9-1 run by the Setters gave them a 22-18 advantage. Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) stopped the run with a kill but Pace responded with the final three points of the set for a 25-19 win.
- Assumption fell behind 9-3 in the second, but pulled back within two, 14-12 on an attack error. The Setters regrouped and went on a run to secure the 25-17 victory.
- In the final set, the Hounds jumped out to an 11-7 lead on a kill by Tess Haller (Cape Elizabeth, Maine / Cape Elizabeth). They led 12-9 before five straight by Pace put the visitors in front 14-12. The set was back-and-forth, with Assumption eventually taking a 22-19 lead. The Setters managed to tie it up at 23 apiece, before an attack error gave the Hounds set point. They couldn't convert and Pace eventually pulled out the 28-26 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption hit .136 in the match with 38 kills, while Pace had 51 kills and hit .268. They Setter also recorded more digs, 77-64.
- Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) was the Hounds' top offensive threat, hitting .321 with 11 kills, while Smith added ten kills and 13 digs.
- Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) led the defense with 23 digs, while Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) had 29 assists and ten digs. Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) added three blocks and seven kills.
- Claudia Fontanet led Pace with 14 kills and ten digs while Samantha Nidine dished off 45 assists with 14 digs.
