HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE
- A pitcher's duel for the first four innings, the teams were scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Mountaineers pushed across a pair of runs for the 2-0 lead. After Owen Lukens reached on a fielder's choice, Eric Harms launched a two-run homer to left. Mansfield added four more runs in the sixth as the Mountaineers chased Assumption starter Kyle Chudoba (Oxford, Conn./Oxford) after 5.1 innings. Chudoba scattered 10 hits while allowing five runs with one walk and two strikeouts as he fell to 0-1 on the season.

- The Hounds added a run in the bottom of the sixth as senior Michael Panza (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) came home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College) to account for the 6-1 final. Panza finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Hounds.

- Chase Pepper went the distance for the Mountaineers and improved to 2-0 on the season as he allowed five hits while striking out 10 and allowing just one walk.

GAME TWO
- In game two, sophomore starter Mike Curtis (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) gave up just one run over 5.2 innings pitched and the Hounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, en route to the 8-1 victory. Curtis scattered six hits with six strikeouts and three walks to improve to 1-0 on the season.

- In the first, a two-RBI double from junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) got the Hounds on the board, followed by a sacrifice fly by Jaehnig for the team's third run. Assumption exploded for a five-run fourth as the team put together five hits in the frame. Highlighting the inning was a two-RBI single to left from Panza, who ended the four-game opening road trip with seven hits (.538 batting average) and a team-best five runs scored.

- Perry helped preserve the victory as he went 1.1 innings of one-hit relief for the Hounds. For the Mountaineers, Billy Rummings took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season as he gave up seven runs on six hits in just 3.2 innings of work.

- Offensively, four Hounds finished with two hits each as the top six batters in the Assumption lineup picked up hits in the victory.
