THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Behind an eight-inning, nine-strikeout performance from starter Tom Horstkotte (Milford, Mass./Saint John's), the Assumption College baseball team came away with a 12-4 win over Concordia College on Friday afternoon at Rollins College in Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds jumped on the Clippers in the first as freshman Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) continued his hot start with a two-RBI hit to left for the 2-0 lead. In the fourth, senior Michael Panza (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) drove in a run with an RBI triple to left center and later scored on a wild pitch for the 4-1 lead.

- Assumption blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning as the Hounds launched three home runs in that inning alone. Junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and sophomore Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College) led off the inning with a pair of solo homers, followed by the first career grand slam by freshman Hunter Tralli (Berlin, Conn./Northwest Catholic) for the 10-1 advantage.

- Junior Jake Byrne (Grafton, Mass./Saint John's) closed out the scoring for the Hounds in the sixth as he launched a two-run homer that scored Coggeshall.

- The Clippers added a single run in the eighth and two in the ninth before dropping the eventual 12-4 final as the Hounds defeated Concordia twice on the spring trip.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Horstkotte improved to 1-1 on the season as he went eight innings while giving up two runs with no walks and nine strikeouts. For the Clippers, Mitchell Hillert dropped to 0-2 as he gave up eight hits and eight runs over just four innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

- Three Hounds posted multiple hits, including a three-run day from Coggeshall and four RBI from Tralli.

UP NEXT:

- The Hounds close out their spring trip on Saturday morning as the team takes on Nyack College for an 11 a.m. start at Alfond Stadium.
