- The Lead: In the final game of a three-game series, the Assumption College baseball team dropped a 15-2 final to the Florida Tech Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Seminick-Hall Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first before adding five runs in the second and two more in the third to gain control at 9-0 overall.
- In the fourth, the Hounds got on the board as junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) launched a solo home run to right for Assumption's first run of the game. Assumption added another run in the top of the ninth as freshman Dominic Alfano (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) scored on a sacrifice fly to left from freshman Justin DeMarco (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic).
- Florida Tech picked up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the final and secure the three-game sweep for the Panthers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore pitcher Kyle Chudoba (Oxford, Conn./Oxford) dropped to 0-2 for the Hounds as he took the loss over 1.2 innings, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs. Andy Marzheuser was the winning pitcher for the Panthers, improving to 1-1 with seven innings of one-hit, four-strikeout ball.
- The Panthers outhit the Hounds by a 17-2 margin behind a four-hit afternoon from first baseman Grant McKown.
