-The Lead: The Assumption College men's lacrosse team got out to 3-0 lead in the first quarter on Tuesday at NYIT, before dropping the contest by a final score of 13-6. Sophomores Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) and Aidan Murphy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Christian Brothers Academy) led the Hound offense with two goals apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Matisoff scored twice in the first six minutes to give the Hounds a quick 2-0 lead before Murphy notched a third goal with 3:42 left in the quarter to make it 3-0 Hounds.
-In the second quarter, NYIT notched its first goal just three minutes into the frame.
-Assumption responded with two straight goals off the sticks of senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Murphy before the 10-minute mark for a significant 5-1 lead. Murphy's goal came with the man advantage.
-Following Murphy's goal, NYIT responded with nine unanswered goals from midway through the second quarter until 11:08 in the fourth.
-Assumption scored just once more when freshman Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) found the back of the net, assisted by senior Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn. / Avon) to bring the score back within four, 10-6.
-NYIT scored three more in the final six minutes for the 13-6 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Matisoff scored two goals on just three shots while Murphy also posted three goals on seven shots overall, three on goal.
-NYIT's Will Kistinger tallied a game-high five goals.
-Guarino went 12-of-23 on faceoffs compared to 10-of-20 for NYIT's leading faceoff specialist, Kistinger.
-NYIT outshot the Hounds 50-20 overall and collected 37 ground balls to Assumption's 20.
-Assumption capitalized on its lone man advantage while NYIT scored on just 1-of-3 opportunities.
-Freshman John Demott (Syracuse, N.Y. / Corcoran) collected 14 saves in his 60 minutes in net, compared to just seven for NYIT's Alex Seltzer. Demott is now 0-2 on the season, Seltzer improves to 3-1.
