THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The Assumption College baseball team moved to Winter Park on Tuesday for the rest of the spring trip as the Hounds earned a sweep of Concordia and Rollins at Alford Stadium. In game one, the Hounds pounded out 15 hits en route to an 11-4 victory over regional foe Concordia University, followed by the 9-7 win over Rollins in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE:
- Assumption jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College) launched a three-run homer to left center. Jaehnig's homer scored junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and senior Tom Paine (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc) as he continued his hot start to the season.
- The Hounds added single runs in the second and third innings, including an RBI single to right from Paine in the second and an RBI double to left center by junior Jake Byrne (Grafton, Mass./Saint John's) in the third for the 5-2 lead. Byrne's extra-base hit scored freshman Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's), who reached on a leadoff walk in the inning.
- Holding a 6-4 lead after seven innings, the Hounds put the game out of a reach with a five-run eighth to account for the 11-4 final. Coggeshall started the scoring with a two-RBI single up the middle to score Paine and freshman Alex Richardson (Rehoboth, Mass./Bishop Feehan), followed by a three-run shot to right by Quinlivan that plated Jaehnig and Coggeshall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS VS. CONCORDIA:
- Jaehnig finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three runs batted in, along with three hits each from Paine and senior Michael Panza (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame). Quinlivan reached via walk three times while scoring twice and driving in three behind his second home run of the season.
- Senior Anthony Perry (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) continued an outstanding start to the season with a seven-inning performance to improve to 1-0. Over seven, he scattered nine hits with four runs allowed and six strikeouts. Freshman Mike Keinz (North Branford, Conn./Notre Dame) shut down the Clippers over the final two innings, allowing just one hit with no walks and four strikeouts.
- John Wall took the loss for the Clippers, allowing six runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts over five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME TWO:
- In game two vs. Rollins, the Hounds jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead and held the 5-1 advantage despite Rollins outhitting the Hounds by a 16-12 margin in the contest.
- In the first, Jaehnig posted a two-RBI single to center to go along with an RBI sacrifice fly by Byrne to stake the Hounds to an early 3-1 edge thru one. Coggeshall added two runs with a double to right in the second, followed by a three-run in the seventh that was keyed by an RBI double to left center by Panza to push the game to the 9-7 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS VS. ROLLINS:
- Panza finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Coggeshall was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Jaehnig was 2-for-4 with two RBI. In addition, freshman Hunter Tralli (Berling, Conn./Northwest Catholic) picked up a 3-for-5 game as he scored twice and he drove in a run.
- Freshman pitcher Clay Yianacopolus (Wakefield, Mass./St. Mary's) earned the win as he went three innings in relief with three runs allowed and three strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
- The Hounds are back in action on Thursday afternoon as the team takes on Stonehill College for a 2 p.m. start at Alfond Stadium.
