- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon at Penmen Field in Manchester, N.H., the Assumption College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference divisional doubleheader to No. 8 ranked Southern New Hampshire University. The Hounds fell by a 7-6 final in 10 innings in game one, followed by an 18-3 setback to the No. 8 ranked Penmen in the second game.
Game One
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In game one, the Penmen put together three hits in the first inning to seize a 3-0 lead and extended that to 4-0 in the second. The Hounds got on the board in the top of the third as junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) launched a two-run homer to left as Assumption led 5-2 through three full. The score stayed that way until the top of the seventh as Coggeshall had a three-run shot to left center to tie the game at 5-5 with his first career two home run performance.
- The Penmen went back in front at 6-5 in the eighth inning as a Carson Helms sacrifice fly scored Sean Webster for the go-ahead run. The score remained in favor of the Penmen until the ninth when Assumption freshman Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) led off the inning with a solo homer to center to tie the contest at 6-6.
- SNHU came away with the victory in the bottom of the 10th frame as Goldstein took a 1-2 pitch to left for the leadoff solo homer and the 7-6 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Southern New Hampshire outhit the Hounds by an 11-7 margin in the game behind Coggeshall's 3-for-5 performance as he had five RBI and two runs scored.
- Senior Steve Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) got the start and went seven innings in the no-decision, scattering 10 hits with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Freshman Geoffrey Kayo took the loss to drop to 0-1 overall, going two innings and allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
- Jake Walkinshaw improved to 1-0 with the win as he went 1.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts for his first decision of the year.
Game Two
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Penmen scored multiple runs in the third through sixth innings, including a seven-run fifth inning to take control. For the game, the hosts owned a 17-5 advantage in total hits.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior Anthony Perry (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season as he went four innings while giving up nine hits and seven runs (five earned). Freshman Clay Yianacopolus (Wakefield, Mass./St. Mary's) went three innings in relief as well, striking out five Penmen in the process.
- Alex Person improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season as he went seven innings while allowing just one hit, striking out eight and walking three.

- Assumption is back in action on Sunday, April 17th as the Hounds take on Southern New Hampshire for a 6 p.m. start at the home of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Sunday.
