THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Trailing 5-1 heading into the ninth inning, the Assumption College baseball team scored five runs in the ninth to pull out a dramatic 6-5 Senior Day win over Stonehill College on Tuesday afternoon. After tying the game at 5-5, a single to right by junior Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) scored pinch runner Nick Massarelli (Southwick, Mass./Southwick) for the winning run that set off a celebration in the infield.

The dramatic victory keeps the Hounds alive for a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with two games remaining against Bentley on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Stonehill got on the board in the top of the third as Isiah Nunez reached on a one-out triple to left center and came home on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead. The Hounds tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as senior Colin Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) reached on a one-out single to right and scored on a fielding error by the Skyhawk left fielder.

- Nunez scored the go-ahead run in the seventh for Stonehill as he came home on an RBI single through the left side by Ben Monte and pushed the lead out to 4-1 in the eighth on a long two-run homer to left by sophomore Alex Hurley.

- The Skyhawks added what appeared to be an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth for the 5-1 edge, setting the stage for the most dramatic victory of the season.

- Coggeshall and sophomore Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College) led off the inning with singles to get runners on the corners to chase Stonehill reliever Joe Klingensmith. Aubrey Solomon came on for the Skyhawks and proceeded to let the next five batters reach to tie the game at 5-5. Clancy scored the tying run on a bases-loaded walk drawn by freshman Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's).

- Solomon struck out the next two Hounds and appeared poised to get out of the inning before Coggeshall picked up his second hit of the inning to lift the Hounds to the 6-5 win as Assumption finishes 9-6 at home in 2016.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Freshman Trevor McQuade (Westwood, Mass./Xaverian) led the offense with a 3-for-5 outing, while each of the No. 3-7 hitters had a pair of hits as the Hounds outhit the Skyhawks 13-8 overall.

- Sophomore Mike Curtis (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) went 6.1 innings in the start as he posted eight strikeouts in the no-decision. Senior Kevin O'Connor (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) improved to 2-0 as he ended up with win after 1.2 innings of relief. Solomon took the loss for Stonehill to drop to 2-3 as he allowed three hits and three runs in just two-thirds of an inning.
