HOW IT HAPPENED
- Assumption scored on their third drive of the game, going 40 yards in four plays, the final of which Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) rifled a pass to Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn. / East Coast Prep) on a slant route, and he weaved between defenders and into the endzone for a 7-0 lead at 7:28.
- The defense then forced a three-and-out, highlighted by a Ray Sarkodieh (Worcester, Mass. / St. Peter Marian) sack, setting up good field position for the Hounds. They capitalized and Monks found Grant down the sideline for a 35-yard touchdown and 14-0 advantage.
- On SCSU's first offensive play following the Assumption touchdown, Nick Valenti (Troy, N.Y. / Troy) knocked the ball out of quarterback Robert Nittolo's arms as he was scrambling, allowing Anthony Libby (Middleton, Mass. / Sacred Heart) to pounce on it at the Owl 21-yard line. Dylan Oxsen (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) rushed four straight times to power it into the endzone for the 21-0 advantage.
- Grant and Monks connected on a 55-yard touchdown reception early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 28-0, though SCSU got on the board before halftime with a four-yard run by Nittolo.
- Oxsen scored his second touchdown of the contest with 13:47 left in regulation to make it a 35-6 advantage, though Nittolo was able to connect with Kendall Thomas for a 34-yard touchdown in the final six minutes for a 35-13 score.
- Assumption didn't let the Owls get any closer as they churned out a nine-play 72 yard drive, taking the ball all the way to the SCSU three-yard line before time expired behind the impressive running of freshman Doug Santos (Peabody Mass. / Peabody Veterans Memorial). Santos tallied 66 of the 72 yards, on seven carries to close the contest out.
