-The Lead: The Assumption University baseball team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on the road on Friday evening. The Ravens erupted for 16 runs and did not allow the Greyhounds to cross home plate in game one and added another double-digit score over seven innings in game two.

GAME #1: Franklin Pierce 16, Assumption 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

-After a scoreless three innings the Ravens took a big lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they put up seven hits and eight runs. 

-Senior John Mead got the bats going for Franklin Pierce as he singled to right center and advanced to second on a single by James Boria. Junior Ryan Lavelle earned the first RBI with a single to left center that scored Mead. His classmate, Randy Flores tallied two RBIs with a single through the right side that scored Lavelle and Boria, both unearned. Seniors Dylan Jones and Jonel Ozuna both put up doubles and earned two RBIs in the inning.

-The Ravens put up one run in each of the next three innings to extend their lead to 11-0 after seven. Two hits including a grand slam by Ozuna over the right center field fence in the bottom of the eighth sealed the first game for Franklin Pierce, 16-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Hounds collected four hits in game one, including a double by graduate student, Matt Lonardo (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston).

-MacGuire O'Sullivan (Durham, Conn. / Coginchaug Regional) falls to 0-1 on the season as he went 3.2 innings for the Hounds and struck out two batters.

-Boria went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Ravens and Ozuna finished 2-for-6 with six RBIs. Franklin Pierce put up 15 total hits.

-Graduate student Seb Gruszecki earned the win on the mound for Franklin Pierce. He pitched six innings, struck out five batters and allowed just two hits. He improves to 2-0 on the season.

GAME #2: Franklin Pierce 11, Assumption 4

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption got on the board first in game two as first year Jared Berardino (Rowley, Mass. / Triton Regional) got things going with a double down the right field line to put Lonardo in scoring position in the top of the second. Senior Dillon Zona (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) earned two RBIs with a double to right center that scored Berardino and Lonardo for the 2-0 advantage.

-Franklin Pierce responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Flores and Jones both secured two RBIs in the jump to a 6-2 lead.

-The Hounds loaded the bases in the top of the third. Graduate student Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) started the inning off with a single down the right field line, Lonardo walked, and Berardino put up his second hit of the game with a single through the left side. Zona drew a walk to score Adamson and bring the Hounds within three, 6-3.

-The Ravens extended their lead to six with three hits and three runs in the bottom of the third, 9-3.

-After Franklin Pierce put upo two more in the fifth, junior Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass. / Saint Bernard's) homered down the right field line for Assumption's final run of the day. The Ravens took the 11-4 final in seven innings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Berardino led the Hounds at the plate, going 2-for-3. Zona finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Assumption tallied a total of six hits in game two.

-Flores led the Ravens going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Franklin Pierce collected 10 hits in game two.

-Sophomore Jack Choate (North Grafton, Mass. / Westborough) falls to 0-1 on the mound for Assumption. He pitched 1.2 innings and struck out five batters.

-Zack Brundage improves to 2-0 for the Ravens as he pitched 4.2 innings, struck out three batters and allowed one hit.

-Assumption is back at Franklin Pierce on Saturday, April 3rd for two more NE10 contests at 12:00pm and 3:00 pm.
