Box Score ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Sophomore Jack Barry (Bridgewater, Mass.) went 3-for-7 from the plate and drove in the eventual game-winning run to help lift the Assumption University baseball team to a 10-6 victory in 15 innings over Bentley at Lake Brantley High School on Saturday afternoon.
After Bentley scored three times with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, Assumption got four runs in the top of the 15th frame. Pitcher Trevor Moulton (Coventry, R.I.), who came in to bat after the Greyhounds lost their designated later in the 13th inning, drew a walk and was sacrificed over to second by junior Christopher Rabias (Chelmsford, Mass.). After advancing to third on a passed ball, Moulton came home for the go-ahead run on a single to left field by Barry. Emilio Acosta (Cromwell, Conn.) and senior Jack Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass.) then hit back-to-back singles to plate three additional insurance runs, and Moulton closed the door on the mound by retiring all three batters he faced to end the game.
Moulton picked up the victory for Assumption (1-1) by pitching two scoreless innings of relief in which he did not allow a hit or issue a walk. He also recorded one strikeout as the anchor of a four-member pitching staff which combined to fan 16 Falcon batters. Connor Gileau took the loss for giving up four runs which were all earned along with four hits.
Assumption and Bentley will return to Lake Brantley high school for a rubber-match to conclude the weekend series tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
