Baseball Drops First Road Game To Flagler

Box Score

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Assumption University baseball team dropped its first true road game of the season by a 14-0 decision against Flagler on Tuesday evening.

Flagler (6-8) scored once in the first frame and then exploded to score seven times in the following inning. After singling through the right side to plate the game's first run in the opening frame, Luke Welborn did more damage in his second at-bat by hitting a grand slam in the second inning. Pitcher Shea Ryan (North Chelmsford, Mass.) eventually got out of a bases-loaded jam by inducing a flyout to center field.

The Saints continued to keep their bats hot in the third by scoring six times, which was more than enough insurance for them to win their sixth game of the season. Assumption got three hits from three different players in the game, but the double-digit deficit was just too much to overcome.

Steven Reiss picked up the win for Flagler for allowing just one hit during the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. He also recorded one strikeout and issued one walk. Ryan suffered the loss after giving up nine runs and eight runs, which were all earned, in two innings of work.

Assumption (2-2) will regroup and next travel to face Rollins tomorrow at 5 p.m.
