Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Assumption University baseball team fell to a red-hot Rollins squad by a 10-1 score on Wednesday evening.
Rollins, which is ranked 22nd nationally and won its 11th straight game, scored at least one run in each of the first three innings. Chase Achuff doubled and tallied the team's initial run before the Tars added three in the second and two in the third to take a 6-1 lead.
The Greyhounds responded and got on the board when junior Eric Preston (Woodstock, Conn.) hit a home run to left field, but that was all the offense they could get. Rollins tacked on four additional runs without having the ball leave the infield to extend their double-digit winning streak.
Alfredo Caraballo earned the win for Rollins (12-2) on the mound by pitching two scoreless innings in which he struck out two and did not allow a hit. Junior Corey Chiappone (Bellingham, Mass.) took the loss for surrendering six runs, including five earned, and nine hits in three innings of work.
Assumption (2-3) will remain in Winter Park on the campus of Rollins College to face Eckerd tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m.
