Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Assumption University baseball team fell to No. 22 Rollins by a 20-3 decision on Friday afternoon.
Assumption got on board first in the top of the second inning. Senior Nick Gaglioti (West Hartford, Conn.), who went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, reached on a dropped fly in center, advanced to third on a groundout, and then scored his first of three runs on a single to left by freshman Cody Smith (Holden, Mass.).
Rollins, however, responded by scoring six times in the second and third innings to burst out to a 12-1 advantage. Adams Torres and Cameron Meehan each hit two-run dingers during the hot stretch offensively, and the Greyhounds would not be able to recover from the large deficit.
Jaylyn Whitehead picked up the victory on the mound for Rollins (13-2), which won its 12th straight game, and improved his ledger to 4-0 by surrendering four hits and two runs, including one earned, in six innings of work. He also struck out eight and did not issue a walk. Jack Choate suffered the loss for the Greyhounds for surrendering five hits and six runs, which were all earned, over two frames.
Assumption (3-4) will continue playing at Alfond Stadium tomorrow when it hosts Stonehill for a non-conference matchup at 5 p.m.
