WINTER PARK, Fla. - Senior Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) went 3-for-4 from the plate, but it wasn't enough, as the Assumption University baseball team dropped a 7-1 non-conference game to Stonehill at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium on Saturday.

The game stayed close for more than seven innings. After Stonehill scored the game's initial run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double in the bottom of the second, Assumption answered right back in the top of the fourth. Wironen hit a bunt single in front of the catcher to jolt the offense, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, and then came home on a single to third base by sophomore Jared Berardino (Rowley, Mass.).

However, Marshall struck again and gave the Skyhawks the momentum back with one swing of the bat in the bottom half of the fourth by taking a 1-1 pitch to right field to plate Blaine Lidsky. The Skyhawks then tacked on another run in the sixth and exploded to score four times in the bottom of the eighth to come away with the six-run win.

Peter Haas picked up the win for Stonehill (3-4) by throwing eight innings in which he allowed five hits and one run which was unearned. He also struck out seven and did not issue a walk. Graduate student James McNamara (Westford, Mass.) took the loss for Assumption after giving up four hits and three runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Assumption (3-5) will conclude its Florida trip when it plays Bentley at Rollins' Alfond Stadium on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
