Box Score Worcester, Mass, - The Assumption University baseball team got back to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon with a non conference win over AIC by a score of 8-5. The Greyhounds used a big fourth inning and backed by multiple arms out of the bullpen to secure the win.
Assumption got on the board early in the first inning thanks to a Jared Berardino (Rowley, Mass.) RBI single but AIC would respond in the third tying the game on a Angel Mendez RBI single. The Hounds regained the lead in the home half of the third on another RBI coming from Berardino. Kevin Cox (North Kingston, R.I.) would have the big hit of the day, clearing the bases with an RBI double in the fourth inning followed by Cody Smith (Holden, Mass.) hitting a 2 run homer later in the inning to put the hosts up 7-1.
Assumption used eight different pitchers, with Shea Ryan (North Chelmsford, Mass.) getting the start and going two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Marc Metivier (Billerica, Mass.) got the win throwing the fourth inning. AIC would push across four runs in the later innings but the Assumption bullpen was able to hang on and lock down the win, with Patrick Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) pitching the ninth.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, April 23 with a non conference doubleheader vs Adelphi University. First pitch is set for 12pm.
