Manchester, N.H. – The Assumption University baseball team dropped the final games of the regular season to Northeast 10 regular season champions, SHNU on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 5-0 and 10-8. Assumption was led by outfielder Emilio Acosta who put up 6 hits on the day. 

Game One: SNHU 5, Assumption 0 

SNHU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a Alex Kennedy 2 run single off Assumption starter James McNamara (Westford, Mass.) to give the hosts an early 2-0 lead. 

The Greyhounds would get baserunners on in every inning, but could not capitalize against SNHU's pitching staff. The Penmen would add three runs in the fifth, when the 4-6 hitters registered three straight hits, a Sam Henrie RBI double, a Nick Schwartz RBI single and a Dakota Mulcay RBI double would be the way the three runs would be plated, creating the 5-0 final. 

Game Two: SNHU 10, Assumption 8 

The Greyhounds would score first in game two, cashing in two runs in the top of the first from an Owen Podolec (Berwick, Maine) RBI single and Emilio Acosta scoring on a strikeout. The host Penmen would get a run back in the bottom of the first when Danniel Rivera scored on a dropped third strike on a Sam Henrie strikeout. 

Corey Chippone (Bellingham, Mass.) would start for the Greyhounds and pitch three strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three. 

Assumption would run into trouble in the fourth, allowing two walks and then an error by Eric Preston would bring the tying run home, followed by a three run home run from Ricky Jimenez, giving SNHU the 5-2 lead. Assumption would respond with two in the top half of the fifth on a Jack Barry (Bridgewater, Mass.) RBI single and then a passed ball would allow Emilio Acosta to score, cutting the score to 5-4. 

The Greyhounds would take the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, when Christopher Rabias (Chelmsford, Mass.) would reach on an error with runners on first and third, allowing pinch runner Cody Smith (Holden, Mass.) to score and tie the game at 5. Eric Preston (Woodstock, Conn.) would then hit a two run double, followed by a Max Lefrancois (Worcester, Mass.) RBI single to push the lead to 8-5. SNHU would respond in the home half of the seventh and tie the game on three straight wild pitches. 

SNHU would add two runs in the eighth on a Rivera sac fly to center and an infield single from Christian Mercedes to make it a 10-8 ball game. Ricky Alexy would set the Greyhounds down in order in the ninth and give the hosts the victory. 

Assumption is bound for the Northeast 10 conference playoffs, starting on Tuesday with an opponent and time to be determined. Details will be provided in a release tomorrow after the rest of the conference regular season wraps up.
