- The Lead: The Hounds came back to take the lead at the end of the first quarter but couldn't slow down the Bears scoring and fell 17-12 to Lenoir-Rhyne.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out of the gate with three goals in a row to take a 3-0 lead at the 12:52 mark of the first quarter. Assumption answered with a goal by Conor Quinlan (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) from Nicholas Shanley (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame of West Haven) when the Hounds were up a player and then turned around a minute later with a goal from Adam Becker (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) with Shanley on the assist. Lenoir-Rhyne slowed the Hounds' momentum with a goal at 8:09 only for Assumption to turn around and go on a 3-0 run with goals from Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central), Becker, and Anthony D'Angelo (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) to give Assumption a 5-4 lead with 4:27 left in the first. Both teams scored a goal in the final four minutes to earn the Hounds a 6-5 lead after the first fifteen minutes of play.
- Lenoir-Rhyne scored two goals to start the second quarter before D'Angelo put a ball in the back of the net to tie the game at seven apiece. The Bears responded with three in a row to take a 10-7 lead with 3:41 left in the half. Anthony Rausa (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) and Owen Peterson III (Westchester, N.Y./Westlake High School) scored for the Hounds back-to-back to get within one (10-9) with 1:56 on the clock. In the final three seconds, Lenoir-Rhyne scored to end the half leading 11-9.
- The Bears opened the second half with four goals to take a 15-9 lead with 1:58 left in the third quarter. Becker scored off a pass from Jason Hughes (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) at the 1:02 mark followed by a goal from Wilcox in the final 19 seconds of the quarter to get Assumption within four (15-11) headed into the final 15 minutes of the game.
- At 12:57 of the fourth Lenoir-Rhyne struck again followed by a second goal at the 12-minute mark put the Bears up 17-11. The Hounds tried to rally at 5:48 when Shanley scored, but the Hounds were unable to score again and fell 17-12 to Lenoir-Rhyne.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Mika Pasquaretta (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) took the loss in the net for the Hounds with 13 saves while Noah Johnson of Lenoir-Rhyne earned the victory with 17 saves.
- The Hounds went 15-for-32 on faceoffs with a total of 51 shots, 29 ground balls and went 14-for-18 on clears. The Bears went 17-for-32 on faceoffs, 18-or-19 on clears and totaled 48 shots and 27 ground balls.
- Becker led the team with three foals while Wilcox recorded two goals and both Shanley and Hughes recorded two assists each.
