Box Score 2 Worcester, Mass. – The Assumption University baseball team continued their 2022 season on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Stonehill Skyhawks. Game One: Assumption 7, Stonehill 2
Jack Choate threw his third complete game in as many starts for the Greyhounds allowing two runs on three hits, walking three and striking out twelve, improving his record to 4-1 on the year.
Choate got all the help he would need from the offense as they put up three runs in the first inning on a Jared Berardino (Rowley, Mass.) RBI groundout and Jack Barry (Bridgewater, Mass.) would deliver a 2 out 2 RBI single to center field to give Choate a 3-0 lead that he would cruise with.
Stonehill's Blaine Lidsky would hit a solo homer in the second but Assumption would respond when Jake Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass.) would score on a passed ball to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Lidsky would hit an RBI double in the fourth but Hamel would add an RBI double and then come around to score when Kevin Cox (North Kingstown, R.I.) would ground into a fielders choice. Barry would add a solo homer in the fifth to stretch the hosts lead to 7-2 and Choate would dominate the Skyhawks all day to help give Assumption the win.
Game Two: Assumption 8, Stonehill 4
Assumption would again put up a trio of runs in the first inning against Stonehill, starting with a Berardino RBI single to center and Jack Barry would hit a 2 RBI double to give Shea Ryan (North Chelmsford, Mass.) plenty of room to work with. Barry would continue his impressive day and hit a solo homer to left in the third and Sean Moynihan (Middleton, Mass.) would follow with a solo shot of his own giving Assumption a 7-0 lead through three innings.
Ryan would dance in and out of trouble all day, stranding four Skyhawks in scoring position over four innings of work. Ryan's final line would consist of four innings of work, allowing one unearned run on three hits, walking four and striking out five while picking up the win.
Hamel would add a solo homer in the sixth inning and Justin Ray would work around three hits and two runs allowed to finish out the game and lock down the win for the Greyhounds.
Assumption is back in action with the series finale versus Stonehill on Tuesday, April 12 with first pitch set for 3:30.
