Waltham, Mass. – The Assumption University baseball team dropped a doubleheader on the road at Bentley on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons took game one by a score of 6-5 when they stormed back and scored four runs in the sixth and racked up 17 hits in game two to defeat the Greyhounds 10-6. 

Game One: Bentley University 6, Assumption University 5 

The hosts came out swinging in game one, plating two runs in the home half off the first off Jack Choate (North Grafton, Mass.) thanks to a Tim Zupkus 2 out, 2 run single. The Greyhounds responded with runs in the third and fourth inning coming from a Owen Podolec (Berwick, Maine) RBI single, and a Eric Preston (Woodstock, Conn.) RBI single. 

The visiting Greyhounds managed to take the lead in the fifth on a Emilio Acosta 2 run single to give them a 4-2 lead but it was shortly lived. In the sixth, two runners got on against Choate via a walk and a single and advanced into scoring position following a wild pitch. Liam Sears delivered the game tying hit with an 2 run single up the middle, to chase Choate from the ballgame. Alexander Meesing (Nashua, N.H.) relieved Choate and a sac bunt moved Sears to second, Halloran was intentionally walked with both runners then executing a double steal. Alex Bodnar then hit a grounder to short that Jake Hamel couldn't handle allowing the go ahead run to score. Jackson Walonis then followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Halloran and give the Falcons an insurance run and make the game 6-4. 

In the final frame, the Hounds put pressure on Bentley when Hamel and Podolec reached with back to back singles and then had runners at first and third following a fielder's choice by Kevin Cox (North Kingstown, R.I.) Emilio Acosta stepped up looking to cash in the runners but struck out and Cox stole second and advanced to third as the throw got away, allowing Hamel to score and make it a one run ball game with the tying run on third. Cody Smith (Holden, Mass.) would then fly out to end the ball game as Assumption would fall in game one by a final score of 6-5. 

Jack Choate would be dealt the loss, with his final line reading: five innings pitched, allowing five runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out seven, with his record standing at 4-2 on the year. Jared Brooks would get the win for the Falcons throwing a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits, walking one and striking out nine. 

Game Two: Bentley 10, Assumption 6

Assumption got on the board first in the first inning thanks to a Jared Berardino RBI single but the Falcons responded with four runs in the home half of the first on four straight RBI singles with 2 outs off starter Shea Ryan (North Chelmsford, Mass.) quickly chasing him from the ballgame. Bentley added a run in the second and three in the fourth to take a 8-2 lead.

The Greyhounds added two in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from Jack Barry and Christopher Rabias to chip away at the deficit but Bentley added two more runs in the bottom half to stretch their lead to 10-4. Sean Moynihan and Max Lefrancois (Worcester, Mass.) added RBIs in the seventh but that was all for the visitors as the Falcons were able to hold on to the 10-6 win. 

Shea Ryan took the loss for Assumption, his final line reading: one inning pitched, four runs on seven hits. Jimmy Hodgson got the win for Bentley going five inning allowing four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three. 

Assumption is back in action on Monday, April 18^th with the series finale versus Bentley. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
