Box Score West Haven, Conn. – The Assumption University baseball team dropped a non-conference mid week single game on Tuesday after noon against the Chargers of New Haven University. Assumption used nine different pitchers on the day but yielded 13 runs, while the offense put together six hits but dropped the game by a score of 13-5.
The Chargers used a five run third inning against Spencer Cipro (Brookfield, Mass.) who allowed four hits and five runs (four earned) and took the loss on the day. After an error by the Hounds defense, Andrew Cain hit a RBI single that brought home two, followed by a Tyler Wells sacrifice fly that brought home another runner. Andrew Bianco then followed with an RBI triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Wells. New Haven added another in the sixth on an RBI from Cain to make it a 6-0 ball game.
The Greyhounds got within a run of the Chargers, putting up five runs in the seventh. Starting with a sacrifice fly from Nicholas Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.), Jake Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass.) provided the big blow in the inning with a double that brought in two runs. Kevin Cox (North Kingstown, R.I.) then reached on an error by the second baseman that allowed two Hounds to score, making it a 6-5 ballgame.
The Chargers would retake the lead in the eighth pushing across seven runs in the frame, with the big blow coming from Wells who cashed in two runs on an RBI double down the first base line. Back to back walks with the bases loaded brought home two more runs and Noah Budzik would hit a RBI single to score the final two runs of the game creating the 13-5 final.
Assumption is back in action on Friday, April 8th, kicking off a four game conference series with Stonehill College. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
